Your home videos, off the tape and onto your Mac.

AirLoom records from a VCR or camcorder, cleans up the picture and saves a modern video file. It runs entirely on your Mac – no account, no subscription, nothing uploaded.

How it works

  1. Connect your player

Plug your VCR or camcorder into your Mac through a USB capture device. AirLoom sees it straight away; there is nothing to install or configure.

  2. Record the tape

Press record in AirLoom, then play on your deck. It records the tape as it runs.

  3. Press Begin

AirLoom picks sensible settings for the tape, cleans up the footage and saves an MP4 or MOV that plays on any television, phone or computer.

What it fixes

Analogue tape has a particular set of problems on a modern screen, and AirLoom corrects each of them.

None of this uses generative AI. AirLoom restores what is on the tape; it doesn't invent detail that was never there.

When the automatic result isn't quite right

AirLoom 2.0 adds a library that keeps every tape you've captured, and a cutting room for correcting single scenes. Adjust the colour and exposure on one shot without touching the rest of the recording.

The cutting room, correcting one scene of a captured tape.

Still on tape?

You'll need a way to get the signal from the player into your Mac. AirLoom works with any USB capture device macOS recognises on its own, without drivers.

Questions

What does AirLoom do?

AirLoom is a Mac app that captures video from old tapes (VHS, Hi8, Video8, camcorders) and restores the footage – removing grain, correcting colours, and sharpening the picture. It works entirely on your Mac with no uploads.

Do I need extra hardware to use AirLoom?

Only if your footage is still on tape. If you already have a digital video file (MP4, MOV, AVI), you can drag it straight into AirLoom with no extra hardware. If you have physical tapes, you need a USB capture device – either one you already own, or the AirLoom Connection Kit.

Does AirLoom use AI to restore footage?

No. AirLoom uses signal-processing algorithms specifically designed for analogue video artefacts – deinterlacing, noise reduction, colour correction, and sharpening. This gives accurate, natural-looking results rather than the blobby, artificial look that AI upscalers often produce on old home movies.

Is AirLoom a subscription?

No. AirLoom is a one-off purchase – pay once and own it forever. There are no monthly fees, no cloud charges, and free updates are included. A free trial is available with export limits.

What Mac does AirLoom work on?

AirLoom requires macOS 13 Ventura or later and works on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
